I rarely watch TV. Rarely rarely watch TV. But a few weeks ago, my dad and I found ourselves aimlessly flipping through channels on our last night together before my mom came home from Florida.

We discovered The Brady Bunch comes on TV now every weekday night from 5pm-8pm on the Hallmark Channel, which pretty much made my day.

I think the last time I watched The Brady Bunch I was… eight maybe? and home sick with the flu. (side note: is it just me, or does everyone on the show seem to have really pretty blue eyes?). Anyway. Maybe I’m a huge party pooper and what I’m about to say falls under extreme nana status, but it’s so refreshing to see clean, wholesome, G-rated TV.

I’ve been so inspired by the style and aesthetic of that show you have no idea. Two weeks ago, I did a Brigitte Bardot themed photo shoot and now I want to do one with a Brady Bunch vibe. I can do ’60s/’70s themed photo shoots for the rest of my life, I tell ya. My dad (who grew up in New York) said that this show made him want to move to California. And now here we are, living in California. Who knew?

It’s interesting how style recurs. We’re talking about this a bit in my art history class (not about The Brady Bunch, exactly, but about different types of art from different eras and how different civilizations took ideas from their predecessors and tweaked it to create their own art). So we’re really just conglomerations of what came before us.

Tell me, did you grow up watching this show?

Definitely watched this growing up! I was born in the 80’s, so obviously I had to watch reruns on Nick at Night. But I loved it! If ever there’s a rainy day or I’m home sick, I just want to curl up and watch this. What a feel-good kind of show!

  • Wonderful memories, captures 70s CA style at its best.

  • Awww I forgot all about The Brady Bunch until now. I used to love that show. Maybe I can find some reruns online…

  • I watched this show growing up in the 80’s when I would get home from school. One of the few shows I was “allowed” to watch. I think Nick at Night would play it until the final show and then have The Partridge Family in it’s rotation for awhile. But they dropped the latter when it wasn’t getting as much ratings as The Brady Bunch. I also loved watching Little House on the Praire and The Facts of Life. My sister and I would watch those shows during the summer and would get upset when school started because we would miss “our” shows.

  • I did watch the show in the 70’s while growing up. I watch it now in syndication. I agree with the G-rating. Considering how shows are now, this is definitely G for good.

  • ohhh the bradys…love them. 70s at their finest! I love all the colors 🙂
