When I was younger, I had a friend who had a pretty awesome playhouse. It was built by her dad who was a contractor or something cool like that in my little 7-year-old eyes and I was oh-so-envious.

The original Wendy house was built for Wendy Darling in J. M. Barrie’s play, Peter Pan. Wendy was shot by the Lost Boy Tootles after arriving in Neverland, so Peter Pan and the Lost Boys built a small house around her where she had fallen. Now a Wendy house refers to a small playhouse for children that is large enough for more than one child to enter.

  • All these are so beautiful! Growing up in Tokyo, it had been my dream as a child to have a house like these to play in! All of them stimulate my imagination. I wish I could have one for my boy. Thanks for inspirations!

  • Oh, it makes me think of spring! I love these so much and would love to turn out Shed into something wonderful for the boys. Would need to find storage for all the other things though. lol

  • I had a playhouse growing up that my dad built, so into forts, playhouses and clubhouses as he was. Ours was more like one of these, though, and less like a fort. Picket fence, a mailbox even. But of course it had a trap door and a basement level! 😉 And then he even wrote a book about building clubhouses… the kid that never grew up 😉 Our playhouse was central to our play as kids. I just heard the term ‘Wendy house’ for the first time a few weeks ago regarding a historic one at a property in Scotland, and I think the ‘shed’ my grandmother has in her ravine falls into this category, she just doesn’t call it that. 😉 Just love them! Great post!
