One of my favorite artists and inspirations is Esther Boller. Esther was the first DIY Sew contributor on D&tG I’ve continued to follow her work ever since. She, like me, also goes to SCAD, except I do the eLearning program whereas Esther attends SCAD at the Savannah, Georgia campus.
If you follow Esther’s work, you know she is the queen of self-portraits. And I mean the QUEEN. I’ve tried self-portraits before, but I could never quite master the self-timer or remote. But Esther, MAN, I can’t even take pictures like that that aren’t self-portraits. Right now, my favorite set of her self-portraits are these ones she did inspired by Robert Lewis Reid’s Girl in Blue Kimono painting. She hand makes a lot of her props, such as the cardboard room divider she used for this shoot.
