Mini trays like this one are perfect for holding jewelry and those knick knacks that you use every day. I found this one on sale at my local craft store, however you can usually find something similar at a homeware store like Bed Bath & Beyond. They are cheap and, once given this easy make over, totally unique. Use it yourself or give it as a gift!
– Patterned paper
– Display tray
– Mod Podge
– Scalpel/craft knife
1. Start by measuring the inside edge of the wooden tray and using a ruler mark out a rectangle the same size onto the patterned paper.
2. Cut out the rectangle and check to see if it fits into the tray – it should sit flush inside. Trim if necessary.
3. Most store bought trays are sealed with varnish, so to ensure the paper will stick properly you may need to sand the inside of the tray. Be careful not to sand the sides, you only want to rough up the base. Wipe out the inside with a damp cloth to clear away any dust from sanding.
4. Coat the base with an even layer of mod podge and firmly stick down the paper. Smooth out any air bubbles. Give the paper an additional coat of mod podge to seal. Wipe away any glue that gets on the side. Allow to dry completely before using.
