One aspect of photography I am continually fascinated by is self portraits. It’s an area of photography that’s always intrigued me, yet I never quite mastered the art of using a self-timer or wireless remote. It adds a whole other dimension of trickiness in composing the shot! Esther of Esther from the Sticks, Alexandra of Larkspur Vintage and Alix of The Cherry Blossom Girl take their own outfit pictures, which, to me is major skills.
Jordan Tiberio‘s recent series of self portraits is just incredible. They have a cinematic quality to them that reminds me of Cindy Sherman‘s work. The self portrait series explores “the emotions that rest on the brink of adulthood and the ones associated with letting go of youth.” At this stage in my life, I can definitely identify with the feeling of letting go of youth. Even though I’m getting older, people think I’m at least 5 years younger than I actually am because I look young for my age. I still feel young at heart. I’m maturing, yet sometimes I feel exactly the same way I felt when I was 13, 14, 15, etc. You look at old people and they still have a glimmer of youth in their eyes. I bet they sometimes feel exactly the same way they felt when they were 13, 14, 15… I don’t think the feeling of youth ever leaves you.
